Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire

Yes, I know it is only October, but I wanted to give it a try.  We have a very large Chestnut Tree in our yard and it started dropping its bounty.  They tasted like macadamia nuts.  Next time I am going to play around with the seasonings to add a little more flavor.

Roasting Instructions:

  1. The trick is you have to soak the chestnuts first.  Any bad ones will float to the top.
  2. Then you score the nuts so that they don’t explode in the fire.
  3.  We roasted them for about 25 minutes in a cast iron pan.
  4. Let them cool off so you can handle them.  Then you peel the shells off and eat them warm.
